Elvis you are the King!

Elvis you are the King!

Denver Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil (92) reacts after sacking New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning during the fourth quarter of an NFL football game in Denver, Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009. Denver won 26-6. Elvis “The King” Dumervil had a pair of sacks in this contest extending his reign of terror on QB’s to 14 solo sacks this year. His second caused a fumble which Mario Haagan recovered to help push us toward victory. There were a lot of little mental mistakes and flat our errors which the NFL Network gets to apologize for airing McDaniels screaming at his team after 3 offensive mistakes which made us settle for a field goal in the red zone after another impressive drive. All and all, that bad taste Rhys keeps talking about, is gone. Kyle Orton led 6 scoring drives for 245 yards and because of some red zone issues had to settle for 1 TD. This set up Mr.Clutch Matt Praterkicking four field goals to keep putting points on the board. Our running tandem looked good. Moreno and Buckhalter kept the defense honest with 138 yards on the ground and a TD. Setting up Marshall to continue to wow corner-backs and audiences alike. Beast was back in action with a pair of fancy one handed catches to get the attention of everyone in a prime time game on a National Holiday. WE ARE BACK! Great Job boys.

Some stories need a new ending.

Some stories need a new ending.

That’s right were going Giant hunting, you know what they say the bigger they are, the harder they fall. If anyone knows what a team that starts undefeated, looses four straight and then works it’s way back and beats a tough opponent, it’s Tom Coughlin and these 2009 Giants. They lost four in a row to before putting their losing ways to rest with a 34-31 overtime win over Atlanta on Sunday. I think this game will show us who Josh McDaniels is and how he gets this team back on track. We find ourselves at a breaking point. One more loss and we could be looking at the end, a big win against a good team after a downward slide would put us back on track with 3 division games left to take back what is ours.

This offense hit a stand-still when Orton has left the game and Chris Simms looked horrible in his big debut as a starter. Orton has said he will play but at what cost. I think JMac showed last game he is willing to risk his health and participation for the rest of the season when faced with another loss. Injuries plagued us last year and between offense and defense our Captains fell hard and didn’t get up and recover. We hope to see them come out fighting. There were two changes to the Broncos’ Injury Report on Tuesday. After being listed as “did not practice” on Monday, Dawkins (neck) and Ryan Harris (Toe) were limited participants during the team’s jog-through on Tuesday. We could see a lot of key participants return to action perhaps even if they are not at full strength to “stop the bleeding”.

Chargers Broncos Football

Denver Broncos’ Kyle Orton (8) is sacked by San Diego Chargers’ Kevin Burnett (99) during the fourth quarter of an NFL football game. It was a good day to play in the AFC West… Unless you are the Denver Broncos. After starting 6-0 the boys have dropped the last 4 straight games to loose control of their fate and hand over control of their division to the San Diego Chargers for the second year in a row. On a day when the Chiefs knocked off Pittsburgh and Oakland came from behind to beat the “Cardiac Kids” in Cincinnati the Broncos started back up QB Chris Simms for the injured Kyle Orton for a bit until Josh McDaniels lost confidence in him after a rusty start and decided to risk a beat up Orton for the rest of the year. Orton came out and after 3 straight completions to Marshall and Gaffney we were knocking on the door but on first-and-goal at the 4, rookie running back Knowshon Moreno fumbled away the ball — and the game — at the goal line when left guard Russ Hochstein, slipped while leading the way, his left knee apparently jarring the ball loose. It was a controversial call which would be ruled a San Diego turnover and touch-back. McDaniels must have supported Belichick’s call last week going for it on fourth down to hand over the game because he gambled with Orton’s health and then an onside kick when we were only 10 points back in the third quarter, is there a who’s the loosest cannon contest going on. Play the numbers and let your defense force another 3 and out. Denver has allowed 29.3 points per game during their four-game losing streak after allowing 11.0 points in their first six games. Even more troubling was watching JMac leave Orton in down by 20 plus in the fourth quarter with not enough time on the clock to produce a comeback. Why not try to restore some confidence in Simms or try our Brandstater (who could be the best option in my opinion) instead of risking Orton for the sake of a desperate move to save some face in a four game slide. I don’t like it at all. This season has been all about “bandwagons”. So WHAT DO YOU THINK? Is Josh McDaniels the victim of a tough schedule and some injuries or is he showing his immaturity as a rookie coach and playing a risky/dangerous game? Can we come back from this slum, we only have four days to prepare for a good NY Giants team who came back to beat the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. I WANT TO HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS, IT’S MAKE OR BREAK TIME ON THE 2009/2010 SEASON!

Down… but Not Out

Tony is the Man!

Broncos fans, the last three weeks has been… BRUTAL!  After starting off 6-0 the Broncos have stumbled to a 0-3 record the last three weeks, with the offense scoring at just over 11 points per game… and JMcD is supposed to be an offensive genius.  What adds insult to injury is the fact San Diego has won three games in a row to tie for the division lead, and Kyle Orton is doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Chargers.  So all is lost.  The Broncos are done, right?

Wrong!  There is no doubt the Broncos need to find their Mojo on offense again, and the defense needs to remember how to get off the field.  But the schedule, though its tough, still sets up well for a potential playoff run.  There are still games left against Oakland and Kansas City (twice).  In addition, there are games against the Giants and the Eagles, who have not exactly been tearing it up lately.  There are two other games against the Chargers on Sunday and the Colts in Indy.  Even with a loss to the Chargers on Sunday (lets hope that is not the case) and a loss to Indy, if the Broncos can sweep KC, beat Oakland, and win one of two from either the Giants or Eagles they would end up 10-6.  A 10 win team gets into the playoffs almost every year.

The last three weeks have been painful.  The schedule this season has be difficult.  The loss of Orton, who would have thought, was huge.  But the Broncos still control their destiny to the playoffs!  And if the Orange and Blue win on Sunday, they will have a stranglehold on the division!  Lets GO BRONCOS!!!

Broncos Redskins Football

Washington Redskins running back Ladell Betts celebrates his fourth quarter touchdown during the NFL football game against the Denver Broncos , Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009 in Landover, Md. Washington won 27-17. Three straight losses and I am having flash backs to the end of last season, we slide down while San Diego battles back. It’s time for McDaniels and the boys to rise to the occasion. Kyle Orton started strong going 11/18 connecting for 193 yards and two long touch downs to Brandon Marshall to jump to an early lead. Unfortunately a big fumble from Buckhalter and a poorly overthrown ball to Royal would have kept the momentum and the score in a favor but let it swing to Zorn and company. But it was fourth-and-20 at the 35, and the Redskins had already showed a fake after lining up for a field goal by splitting tight end Todd Yoder wide as a receiver in field goal formation. The attempt was initially aborted when coach Jim Zorn had to call timeout because Washington had only 10 men on the field, they came back from the timeout and went for it and converted it. To make matters worse, the Broncos had to play the second half without Kyle Orton,  after hurting his left ankle during a third-down scramble on his team’s final offensive play of the first half. Chris Simms, seeing his first action of the season, only completed 3 of 13 for 13 yards with an interception, and Denver had only 36 yards of total offense after halftime. Our inability to stop a mediocre offense and to produce any of our own let a 2-6 Washington Redskins team take this game away from us. Washington scored 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to snap a four-game losing streak and continue our own streak to three. The offense came to a total standstill without Orton who somehow wins games. How do you not seize your opportunity Chris Simms to step in, that is your job to be ready should anything happen. He couldn’t get anything going and missed Marshall on the sidelines, there are not much bigger targets to hit buddy. Maybe take a few more reps in practice this week.

Steelers Broncos Football

Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Deshea Townsend, left, tackles Denver Broncos’ Brandon Marshall after a pass reception in the first quarter of an NFL football game Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, in Denver. Not even neon painted orange shoes or Ty Law coming out of retirement could help the Broncos as they loose their second in a row at home on Monday night 28-10. Denver did not establish the run and turned the ball over, not a recipe for success. The Denver Broncos and Josh McDaniels were supposed to show us how a good team respond to a tough loss. Last week Baltimore just outplayed us but we outplayed ourselves this week. The Broncos alloud Rashard Mendenhall of Pittsburgh to rack up 155 yards while responding with 27 total yard from our big one-two punch of Buckhalter and Moreno. Kyle Orton made some mistakes and the defense brought the pressure as he turned the ball multiple times in this loosing effort. Roethlisberger completed 21 of 29 passes for 233 yards and three TDs as the Steelers won their fifth straight game. The start of the game looked good. Three straight 1st downs to Eddie Royal and a field goal from Matt Prater made it the first time Denver has scored on the opening drive of a game. Good stuff, controlling the pace of the game, getting to the QB, everything was going great until the second half. Denver flat out got beat up, started beating themselves and were giving up a lot of ground while gaining none on the ground. The worst part is the looming beast of a San Diego comeback on Sunday to close the gap on the AFC West. It already reminds me of last season. Luckily the Broncos survive the meat of their schedule 6-2 as they get a less menacing opponet in  Washington next week, the Redskins are 2-6 as Zorn tries to hang onto his job. I hope Josh McDaniels can prepare our team and do not assume it will be an easy game. You have got to play until the end of the game. Quick defensive nod to Elvis Dumervil for recording his 11th sack of the season and to Kenny Peterson who sacked Roethlisberger’s arm to force the fumble runback for a touchdown by Robert Ayers.

Big Tree- Fall Hard

Talk about a sack lunch.

Talk about a sack lunch.

People love to talk about how big Ben Roethlisberger is. We will see him hit the ground in Denver on Monday night. The Steelers are a good football team and they do multiple things well. They are a little banged up but their key role players will be in attendence. Denver must set the pace for this game. Run the ball. It will be so important for the one-two punch of Correll Buckhalterand Knowshon Moreno to establish our run game and keep the defending Super Bowl Champion Steelers defense honest. This will open up the field for Kyle Orton to pick apart what ever looks they give him down field. Our defense must continue to get pressure. Elvis has been like a shark in the water with the QB’s he’s faced and he is smelling blood. Watch for him to return to the sack stat column and the Broncos to have a tough challenge in Denver on Monday night.

That's why Elvis is the King.

That's why Elvis is the King.

Elvis Dumervil has 10 sacks already this season and 24 solo tackles, yeah he’s the King alright. Go get em baby!

McDaniels Bewildered

McDaniels Bewildered

The Baltimore Ravens flat out came to play. After loosing 3 games in a row before their bye they looked more athletic, competitive and prepared. Baltimore 30- Denver 7. The Denver Broncos were one of the 3 hottest teams in the NFL who had not yet had a chink in their armor so to speak. Well we discussed what would happen if someone got pressure on our composed QB Kyle Orton. It wasn’t pretty. Orton did not throw a touchdown for the first time this season as the Broncos lost for the first time this season as they allowed 24 points in the second half after giving up 10 points in the second half of their first six games.  Baltimore QB Joe Flacco threw for 175 yards and a touch down but he also had some help from the tough Baltimore defense who provided endless pressure on Orton combined with Lardarius Webbs’ special teams efforts as he returned the second-half kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. The were a tough opponet but we are still going strong. The true test of a great team is how they respond after a tough loss. Time to look forward to next Monday night when Pittsburgh comes to our house.

Bye, Bye, Bye!

Get ready for a hard nose game!

Get ready for a hard nose game!

Last week we had to play a San Diego team coming off their bye, Baltimore this week and Pittsburgh coming off their bye next week. Another reason we have one of the toughest schedules in football. Time to cook up some “dirty birds”. The Ravens coming off their bye week after a 3 game loosing streak is in a must win scenario. Baltimore looked like the team to beat early in the season but have slid back and must come out swinging.  Kyle Orton has had a great season and has not seen any pressure this year has helped the Broncos be so successful. Watch out for Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs, Ray Lewis and the Baltimore defense to get through our line. This is the toughest defense we’ve faced and they threaten our stability and our win streak. In second halves of the last 5 games the Denver Broncos has only let 3 points TOTAL go up on the score board. That is unheard of in the NFL! Elvis Dumervil will continue to dominate and pile up a few more sacks, teams have sacked the Flacco 10 times already this season, watch for at least two more this week. I hope the Broncos and  Head Coach Josh McDaniels spent this week getting healthy and preparing for a tough well rounded team. Joe Flacco is the real deal but nothing has been the same for this team since Mark Clayton dropped that pass when they were marching down the field against New England a few weeks ago. They run hard, they can throw the ball but they struggle on coverage and give up a lot of receptions. Watch for my boy Brandon “the Beast” Marshall to light up the scoreboard on Sunday morning. This is a true test for good teams, can you win the tough games on the road.

Perhaps Cutler should spend more time with his receivers and watching film and less time selling ads and working on his modeling career. I guess if this football thing doesn’t pan out he can be the new face of the windy city, hope it doesn’t mess with his new steezy.3-3 Bears need more than a wardrobe malfunction to improve Jay’s approval rating 11 TD’s 10 INT’s, we’ll stick with “neck beard” thanks.
