The Beast is Gone

Surprise Buddy, pack you stuff. Dress Warm.
Brandon Marshall is now officially a Miami Dolphin. The Denver Broncos had to add a 2million dollar incentive a few days ago to even get teams to consider looking at the 6 foot 4 distraction. Usually it is not hard to get teams to go after one of the games most dominant wide recievers in one on one coverage but his pre-season antics were so widely published and scrutinized no one wanted to touch him. Only Seattle flew him out when he became availible and I thought a college coach coming back to the pros would have been a perfect place for such a juvinile additude, guess Pete Caroll is done with College kids for now.
I stand corrected Marshall is now a fish. Denver traded Brandon in exchange for the Dolphins’ second round pick in this year’s draft (43 overall) and in 2011. The deal is contingent on Marshall passing a physical.
Marshall is known for his ability to break and dodge tackles. He led all NFL wide receivers in yards after first contact in 2007. Regarding Marshall’s breakaway ability, K.C. corner-back/diva Brandon Flowers said, “Brandon Marshall is a defensive lineman playing wide receiver. He wants to inflict punishment on you. He wants you to try to tackle him so he can shove you off of him and get more yards. The Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha said Marshall is “the toughest guy to bring down, one-on-one.” On December 13, 2009, Marshall set an NFL record for receptions in a game with 21. He is also only one of five players in NFL history to catch at least 100 passes in three consecutive seasons.

I know that a lot of people are bummed by this - but it had to be done. Just as with Cutler, McDaniels has set the tone that he will not tolerate me-first players, no matter how talented they are. I’d rather cut out all this rot now and start fresh than try an work with a cancerous group of players for several years, only to watch it completely blow apart.
On another note, South Beach + Brandon Marshall is an absolute powder keg waiting to explode.

“On another note, South Beach + Brandon Marshall is an absolute powder keg waiting to explode.”
This is quite true.
Still bullshit though and I am trying to piece together all of the, going on two years now, ramifications of Pat Bowlen’s final decision to totally hollow out the heritage of Broncos Nation. We shall know more next week.
A Denver Post commenter made a pithy point:
“I just finished reading all 452 posts. Strong opinions on both sides so you have to weigh this issue carefully. I have decided to simplify it: who knows more about talent in the NFL — Bill Parcells or josh mcdaniels? Man this is a tough one.”
I think we have finally become the AFC West’s new Chefs. Ugh!!!!

I am glad the drama is over to be honest. I think Brandon is a hell of a Receiver and I also liked Cutler as a player but now they are not on my team and I am trying to look forward, Cutler, Hillis, Marshall all McDaniels has to do is get rid of Tony Scheffler and my former exciting fun to watch team will be completely destroyed. All pressure will fall on Royal to become the #1 receiver which he does not have the build for (look at Devon Hester-sorry) talent isn’t enough. Best #2 ever though Royal.
McDaniels benched both Marshall and Scheffler for the Broncos’ season finale against the Kansas City Chiefs in December, citing a need for disciplinary measures. It was well-speculated that neither would play for the Broncos again. This is a big step to that speculation becoming a reality.
Scheffler has led tight ends with 13.7 yards per catch since he entered the league in 2006, and the Broncos are hoping to net a third round draft pick for his services.
The market for Scheffler won’t be as loaded as Marshall’s was, but the Broncos are now free to talk to teams about potential compensation. Look for Tony to be moved by the draft or sooner.

The bottom line is was Brandon Marshall worth 50 million dollars to the Denver Broncos? My thought is absolutely not. He is a great talent but don’t let the number lie to you. He over 100 catches last year but 21 of them came in a game against the Indianapolis Colts where we were dominated all afternoon (also most of these catches were bubble screens). I also can understand why people are so concerned about the pro-bowlers making their way to the door, but let’s be honest, and concede that these players were not getting it done. We were a mediocre team and sure you can say the defense let us down in years past, however, Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall were not helping this team get into the endzone…. That’s for sure…. A lot of yards without a lot of TD’s. Now it’s time to give Josh the chance to see his plan through. Our defense should be greatly improved this year with the new look defensive line and let’s just hope we address some needs in the draft that will get this offense in the endzone. The NFL is about getting to the Super Bowl… it’s not about personal numbers or single highlights in losing efforts. I’m ready for new type of a team and a new type of wide receiver than Brandon Marshall. I’d take a guy who comes to work every day, shuts his mouth and gets to work as a teammate rather than a pre-madonna. In other words, I’d take Rod Smith every day and twice on Sunday than Brandon Marshall.
The more I read I am not quite sure that Denver won’t draft Dez Bryant who is undoubtedly a better athletic talent than BMARSH. I am actually hoping they trade down for a later first rounder to get the center from Florida and another pick in the top 80.

Drew…. 3 players jumped out out at JMAC over the past 2 weeks. Rolondo McClain, Dez Bryant and Tim Tebow. Could be a very interesting draft…
