The Silver Lining
Though the 2008 season came to a close in a fashion most Broncos fans want to forget, there is a lot to be excited about for the Broncos in 2009. Lets not forget that the Broncos were not even supposed to challenge for a playoff spot, because this was supposed to be a rebuilding year. The Orange and Blue did not get that memo, because they fought valiantly all year beating a number of playoff teams. Unfortunately, too many injuries, youth, and inconsistent play caught up with the Broncos. However, all of these things that were their Achilles heel in 2008 will help the 2009 team. Because of the vast number injuries, Shanahan and co. got to play a number of young players and see their abilities. In this process the Broncos discovered hidden talents in Peyton Hillis, Wesley Woodyard, Jamie Winborn, Spencer Larsen, and Josh Bell. Furthermore, all of the rookies that got playing time will help give this very young Denver team needed experience for 2009. Unlike other young teams (Oakland and Kansas City) this Denver team played well, especially in big games.
I don’t know how Denver fans cannot already be salivating for next season. Denver is going to get healthy, which means an epic running back battle in training camp Young vs. Hillis vs. Pittman vs. Aldridge vs. Torain vs. Bell vs. Pope vs. potential draft pick. A healthy Champ, who was obviously not the same this season. A healthy linebacking core, which will have great depth between Boss, Winborn, Williams, Webster, Woodyard, and Larsen. And to top it off a high draft pick in which the Broncos can target a difference maker either at the safety or defensive line position.
Yes, the 2008 season is one to forget. But lets not forget the standout performances by rookies Clady and Royal, second year man Ryan Harris, and third year players Scheffler, Cutler, Marshall. So though the finish to 2008 was a rough one, the lessons learned in ‘08 will make the ‘09 Orange and Blue a very scary football team.
ON A SIDE NOTE: I have had a blast doing Broncoscast in 2008 and can’t wait to do it in 2009. As for the pick battle, I staged a furious comeback to beat Drew at the finish line. This means Drew has to preform some humiliating task… pink leotard… singing at a sports bar… please send your ideas to hosts@broncoscast.com. We love to hear from fans and hope to get more fan interaction as the offseason begins and into next season. I hope everyone has a Happy New Years! GO BRONCOS IN 2009!!!

I think Drew should stand on a busy street corner during the morning rush hour singing and acting out I’m A Little Tea Pot over and over again. Tea Pot costume optional.

Ahh yes the Tea Pot, I like where Scott’s heads at for humiliation level but it lacks the energy and enthusiasm I can bring to the table. I have an amazing voice singing is Rhys’s nemisis but I will heed a call if need be.
