Time to get Conservative!
With the election finally concluded, its now time to get conservative… and Im not talking politically. The Broncos came out of the 2008 season on fire. Cutler was slinging the ball to every possible receiver, the backs were making plays when they had to, and the defense got key stops to help Denver go 3-0, while putting up more points than most teams hope to put up in eight games. However, since that start NFL defenses have adjusted to “The Greatest Show in Thin Air”. The Denver Broncos have spent the last five games, in which they are 1-4, trying to force balls into small throwing windows, gambling on defense, and being careless with the football. Denver over the last five games has relied on Cutler to win games, while the running game has been an after thought. What made Tom Brady and Peyton Manning elite quarterbacks over the last several years was the ability to run the ball.
Its now time that Denver adjusts to all the teams that have adjusted to the Broncos. Its time to go back to vintage Denver Bronco football… running the ball. I know that sounds like an impossible task considering we have more running backs in street cloths than in pads. However Torain, Hillis, and potentially Young need to step up and make the Broncos a legit running team again. Furthermore, when Cutler drops back to pass, if Marshall, Royal, and Stokley are not open he needs to check it down to a running back or tight end or throw it away. On defense the Broncos need to continue to stop the run, like they did in the Miami game, and make teams one dimensional. Finally, every member of the team needs to focus on tucking the ball away.
I know this sounds like Im harping on the Broncos for all of their woes, however it is exactly the opposite. I believe the Broncos need to get back to the basics, back to the way old Denver teams used to play, back to a more conservative style. This will hopefully cut down on the turnovers, make the broncos a more balanced offense, and help keep the flow of the game in Denver’s favor. All of the Broncos losses, with the exception of New England, have been close losses that were pushed in other teams favor because of careless mistakes. So orange crush nation take heart, the Broncos are not as bad as they have seemed the last five weeks. By getting more conservative the Broncos can cut down on their mistakes, turn games in their favor, and make a playoff run! GO BRONCOS!!!

Good call on Cutler needing to regain his early season confidence. It always comes back to confidence, and he should have plenty of it after making the Browns’ D look silly in the 2nd half last night. After the Miami game, I was ready to call the Broncos’ playoff hopes a dud too. But hopefully that 2nd half at Cleveland provided enough of a spark to make the games 1-3 Broncos show up for the rest of the season.
