More dings in trade rumors

tommyb

The Denver Broncos have released backup QB Tom Brandstater. Brandstater, a sixth round draft pick in 2009, The Broncos now have three quarterbacks on their roster: Kyle Orton, Brady Quinn, and Tebow.

Brandstater’s release came as a surprise to some, since the 25-year-old quarterback impressed the team during the 2009 preseason and was eligible to be protected on the team’s practice squad. Broncos’ coach Josh McDaniels told The Denver Post the release so early in the 2010 preseason was to enable the other three quarterbacks to get more work in practice.

He will be put on waivers, making the sixth-round pick in the 2009 draft available to be claimed by any NFL team.

Also gone is offensive lineman Maurice Williams. Williams arrived less than a month ago.  He spent nine seasons with the Jaguars, starting all 16 games in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006.

Broncos signed free agent fullback Kyle Eckel. Eckel won a Super Bowl ring with the Saints in 2009, the highlight to a four-year career that has included stops in Miami, New England, and Philly.  In 2007, he appeared in 12 regular-season games and two postseason games for the Patriots, who finished 18-1, losing to the Giants in Super Bowl XLII.

Off Season Scramble

All these big moves in the draft stirred the pot already now there are Orton Trade talks being fueled by the Denver Post and fan sites. I doubt Orton will be involved in any trades but I also guaranteed the Broncos wouldn’t select Tebow in the first round. I don’t understand McD at all and I will not pretend to for one second this year. Now there is buzz with Dumervil back in town to talk signing. Dumervil, who has not participated in any of the team’s voluntary workouts this offseason, has been offered a $3.168 million paycheck from the Denver Broncos if he signs his tender by June 15. The league’s sack leader in 2010, Dumervil has been seeking (and, frankly, earned) a long-term deal from the Broncos that would categorize him with some of the league’s most elite defenders financially. What will the Broncos do. We thought for sure our franchise players were safe in past seasons but again I have no clue what JMac does.

Closure for the Broncos family-27

dwilliams

Re-post from Denver Post:

DENVER, May 1 (UPI) — Willie Clark, who still claims he is innocent, has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the murder of Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams.

Clark, 26, who maintains he was set up by fellow gang members to take the blame for the Jan. 1, 2007, shooting of Williams, was sentenced Friday to an additional 1,152 years in prison for 16 charges of attempted murder relating to his criminal history, The Denver Post reported.

Clark was convicted March 11. The shooting of Williams in his limousine followed a series of confrontations in and around a nightclub involving Williams and some teammates, and a group of gang members, investigators said.

Clark had asked to be excused from attending the sentencing but Judge Christina Habas denied the request, the newspaper said.

Clark listened as members of Williams’ family spoke during the proceeding, the newspaper said.

“I know (Clark) is still saying he is innocent,” Williams’ mother, Rosalind Williams, said. “But for each and every person who was in the vehicle, you guys are all guilty. Admit that. Show some remorse.”

Rosalind Williams noted that Clark’s family could come visit him in prison while she can only visit her son “in the cemetery.”

Ready for bad news already?

Ryan Clady

Ryan Clady

According to the Associated Press:

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - Denver Broncos All-Pro left tackle Ryan Clady has undergone surgery to repair a torn left patellar tendon and will be out for several months, according to a published report.

The Denver Post reported on its website Wednesday that Clady suffered the knee injury while playing basketball, according to people it didn’t name.

Team spokesman Patrick Smyth declined to comment on the report when reached by The Associated Press, saying only that veterans were participating this week in the team’s offseason training program. Clady’s agent, Pat Dye Jr., didn’t immediately return a phone call.
